Humlab welcomes PhD students at the Faculty of Arts
to apply for a course that will take place during Fall 2016.
Accepted participants will be allocated resources (software,
technical assistance and supervision) in order to carry out
individual digital projects aligned with the doctoral research
plan. The course includes theoretical, ethical and critical
Digital Humanities in relation to the specific
projects. The course will focus on the individual projects but also
include seminars and workshops during the term. Readings and a
written assignment will be specified on an individual basis along
with the PhD candidates' supervisor(s).
When: fall 2016, starting in September 2016 and
finalized by January 2017. Work with Humlab staff will be planned
and scheduled individually.
The application should comprise a project proposal of
about 2-3 pages (A4) including the following parts:
- A description (idea and goal) of the digital
project that you would like to carry out within the course.
We encourage project proposals that make use of
Humlab's infrastructure in Humlab-X and/or Humlab at the main
- Timetable for the project
- Specification and estimation of what kind of
material, software and digital methods and other resources
(competences included) would be needed to complete the project
The application should also include:
- A short CV (stating previous experiences and
knowledge of for example software, programming and use of digital
tools and methods)
- Short summary of the doctoral project (1/2
- Separate letter of support from the supervisor
stating the relevance of the digital project for the PhD-project as

Who can apply? All PhD candidates at the Faculty of
Arts in Umeå University, with projects in relation to Digital
Humanities and Humlab's fields of interest, are welcome to apply.
Priority is given to:
• PhD candidates with a Digital
• PhD candidates who have completed the PhD course
"Digital Humanities I".
